Keeping Our Nose to the Holy Grindstone

As I read the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 12:11-31) this is what struck me…

Once we were lost, but now we are found.  Once we were the prodigal son that returned home.  God celebrated with the angels over us.  But now that we are “home” we must be the brother that stays and works steadfastly.  As we render ourselves to Him faithfully and obediently, he will say to us as He did to the son at home, “You are always with me, and everything I have is yours.”(v. 31)  Wow!  What a friend we have in Jesus and a treasure we find when we seek Him with all our might.  Even if we don’t see the rewards today, it is coming because He has given us the Holy Spirit as a promise of better things to come.  Until then, may we always remember that He is with us and that everything He has… peace, love, joy, hope… are all ours in full measure, pressed down and running over.

May we be found not wanting with our nose to the Holy grindstone as a thank you for His giant mercy upon us.
